are advanced statistics finally getting recognition?
Well his WAR was the best among the top 20 AL vote getters.
But his sabre defense was actually a step back this year and only slightly above average.
And the closest vote getter to him was Victor who played 115 games at DH.
Trout was the obvious choice, for sabre dudes and for crusty sportswriters and maybe even Joe Morgan, but he probably would have voted for Robbie Cano because second base matters so much more than every other position. Fucking Joe Morgan.
And Kluber probably won the AL Cy Young because of 3 wins and 21 strike outs. So no, advanced stats might still not mean anything. How the fuck did King Felix throw 18 wild pitches?!?!?
(11-17-2014 02:17 PM)Genius Wrote: [ -> ]Seems like a lot of money for a 31 year old non-GG winning catcher coming off a career outlier hitting year in which he only played in 111 games. Consider yourself lucky he signed for Blue Jay money and now you'll never hear from him again.

It's a double-edged sword. Obviously, that's a terrible deal in terms of time and money. But the Cubs need an upgrade at catcher, a vet like him on the roster and someone who can call a good game behind the dish.
The A's snag Billy Butler away from the Royals. 3 years, $30 mil
Hanley Ramirez to the Red Sux. 5 years $90 mil. No word of he's being signed to play SS, 3B or OF
And they're signing the Panda Bear.
Apparently they've learned nothing from the Beckett/Adrian/Crawford contracts that they signed a few years back.
And that probably was the previous regime, but the Dodgers totally bailed them out of those deals and they could have done something different.
But how long before Hanley and Pablo are both on the DL at the same time?
Two or three months?
With both of them being on the 60-day?
Terrible, horrible, awful, shitty contracts that smack of desperation that should not be present in a franchise that won 3 titles in 10 years.
Unless they just don't give a fuck about the money.
But even then, these guys are going to get hurt and will eat salary and roster spots.
It's just dumb franchise management, and even if they sort of work out, bad decisions lead to more bad decisions.
Yeah, I'm vomiting over Sandoval leaving the Giants for the Sux. Another guy I liked I'll no longer root for
And Hanley's moving to LF. LULZ
Those Hanley and Panda deals aren't awful. I wouldn't want to commit that long to Hanley, but it buys them a right now window for a guy who's totally worth it when healthy. And Panda is young yet, and the deal is only 5 years...

Post this on Facebook, but the 2015 HoF ballot is out:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2015.shtml

Who ya got? My ballot:

- Jeff Bagwell
- Barry Bonds
- Roger Clemens
- Randy Johnson
- Pedro Martinez
- Mark McGwire
- Mike Mussina
- Mike Piazza
- Curt Schilling
- John Smoltz
And then I would complain wildly about being limited to 10 votes (coupled with the fact that candidates now only get 10 years of eligibility rather than 15). I'd also EASILY vote for Biggio, Tim Raines, and Alan Trammell along with strong consideration for Edgar Martinez, Fred McGriff, Larry Walker, Gary Sheffield, and Sammy Sosa (E-Mart and McGriff being the most likely of those for me).

Since half that ballot juiced, maybe Tram can finally get his.
