That is super lucrative for someone who has never faced a major league batter. Yanks must have either really liked what they saw, or wanted to make sure to keep him off of other rosters.

What says Stax?
It's a lot of money. You can't really say more than that. This is the kind of deal the Yankees can still pull that others can't, because theoretically if he bombs that doesn't TOTALLY ruin their team. But still, lots of money.

Hard to have a more pristine resume than he does (as opposed to Daisuke who, while good, wasn't having his best years when he left), so I would agree seems more like Darvish. But yeah.
It just seems like a really strange move for them to make. They didn't want to take on Brandon Phillips bad contract, but he would have been a significant upgrade at 2B, especially when Roberts misses more than half the year. But then they give one of the largest contracts in the history of American sports to a pitcher who has never faced an MLB batter. Talent and health aside, what if the guy just can't assimilate? What if he doesn't fit in with the team? What if he hates the NYC spotlight? You can make certain judgments on a North American and then make a calculated risk, but that isn't possible with an Asian because of the cultural differences and the immeasurable factors that come with them. It seems like something a desperate Cashman would do, knowing that if he blows it he's fired anyway and won't be around for the fallout.
Quote:In his first public interview since signing with the division-rival New York Yankees, former Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts had stinging words for Orioles fans.

In a phone interview with the YES Network on Tuesday night, Roberts said that the Yankees “didn’t need a whole lot of sales pitch” in order to draw him to New York and added that, “as a kid, I think so many of us dream of putting that [Yankees] uniform on at some point.”

Clownshoes.
I'm sure that Orioles fans would have their own choice words for Brian Roberts, probably including "steroids", "fragile", "pussy" etc...
how do you play 10+ years with a team, leave and say his dream all along was to play for their rival?
ask johnny damon
Well you're going from shit to baseball Mecca
More like baseball Vatican, where A-Rod will diddle you.
